The testimony was stunning. Markovic had been touted as the insider who would finger Milosevic. Instead, calmly, thoughtfully, he refuted the prosecution case, including statements which had been attributed to him by Hague "investigators". And then, with so-called Judge Richard May violating the so-called tribunal's own official rules in an attempt to prevent Milosevic from dealing with the abuse of Markovic during the so-called investigation in Belgrade, the Yugoslav leader managed to ask the former Police chief:

Anonymous writes "First, by saying most delegates *didn't know* they were voting to boycott a memorial, Schaitberger is admitting that in fact the resolution *involved boycotting a memorial*! Otherwise what would it mean that most delegates weren't informed?
But this contradicts his argument, quoted earlier, that "some" delegates "may have considered the vote to be an endorsement of a boycott of the memorial service" but that this was a mistaken view of the resolution, one which they held due to "gossip and rumors"!

First, we would *not* justify putting out false information on the grounds that it's anti-Bush or anti-anyone. (Though of course we could make a mistake, etc.)
However, regarding our post of the August 14th Reuters dispatch which asserts that the Firefighters Union voted to boycott the Oct. 6th memorial because Bush planned to attend, we didn't fall for a hoax. Until just an hour ago, you could access the Reuters story at:

BERLIN (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier expected to plead guilty to charges of abusing Iraqi prisoners told a German magazine he deeply regretted his actions but said the abuses were encouraged by military intelligence services.
Staff Sgt. Ivan Frederick told the weekly Der Spiegel conditions in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib jail were a "nightmare" with no clear line of command and conflicting demands placed on junior soldiers with insufficient training.
"I didn't know at all who was actually in charge," he said, according to a German translation of his remarks.
"The battalion wanted one thing from you, the company wanted something else and the secret service had their own ideas. It was just chaos," he said.
